TRIU Match of the Week: © The Rock vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin for the WWF Title at WM17…

Wrestlemania 17, Houston, TX (4/1/01)

No DQ Match for the WWF Championship at WM17 – “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. © The Rock: First of all let me say how great it was to watch this match with the great Jim Ross and Paul Heyman on commentary. Austin came out of the gate strong being in front of his home town crowd and the Rock came back just as hard. The brutality in this match reminded me of old school wrestling. Both men bled at some point during the match and the twist ending where Vince comes out and Stone Cold surprises everyone by getting help from Vince. This leads to my favorite moment after the match is over and Vince and Austin shake hands and JR says “Austin is shaking hands with the devil himself!!” Great match with two icons in the game and it entertains even years later…

TRIU: WWE Fast Lane Review (2/22/15)…

Memphis, TN

6 Man Tag Match: Seth Rollins, Big Show & Kane vs. Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowand & Ryback (Winners: Rollins, Kane and Show) – This was a great match that saw Ziggler and the boys put up one hell of a fight. The moment of the night came after the match as Seth and the boys were beating down Ziggler and the guys. Randy Orton returned to a great pop and made the save chasing Seth off thru the crowd…

Singles Match: Golddust vs. Stardust (Winner: Goldust via Pinfall) – This match was a great one that saw the Rhodes brothers go out there and put on a show. The match kind of had a clunky ending with Golddust winning on a suspicious 3 count and Cody being upset after the loss…

We get a video segment showing a feud between John Stewart and Seth Rollins that began on RAW and continued till this week. Now backstage Golddust is talking to Dusty Rhodes and Stardust comes up and attacks Golddust and puts him down. Up next we have the tag team championship match between the Uso’s and Cesaro and Kidd…

Tag Team Title Match: © Uso’s vs. Cesaro & Kidd(Winners: © Kidd &Cesaro via Pinfall) – This was a amazing match between two young and top teams in the WWE. The Uso’d seemed to have the upper hand but at the end of a fast paced spot Kidd was able to hit his finisher and get the pin to let him and Cesaro leave Fast Lane as champs…

We now get a video segment setting up the Sting and HHH feud from Survivor Series to the past Monday’s RAW. Up next the confrontation between HHH and Sting!! HHH is in ring first, he cuts a promo about being a WWE guy and this being his home. Next out we have Sting!!! HHH now begins to rundown WCW and tout his respect for Sting. He also takes responsibility for the demise of WCW, he also offers him a chance to walk away. HHH even goes as far as to offer Sting a spot in the WWE HOF to go away. HHH tries to cheap shot Sting but Sting block and drops HHH. HHH then hits Sting with a mike and the beat down begins, he goes under the ring and pulls out a sledgehammer. When he turns around to use it Sting has his bat and backs HHH into the corner and points to the Mainia sign. Sting gets HHH to agree to a match at WM31 then as he turns his back HHH attacks and Sting beats him down and hits him with the Scorpion death lock and walks away. We see a video package of the Paul Heyman on Miz TV. Up next is the Diva’s title match between Paige and Nikki Bella…

Diva’s Title Match: © Nikki Bella w/Brie vs. Paige (Winner: © Nikki Bella via Pinfall) – This match was anti climactic to say the least. I know that both of these girls can go so why this match was cut shot is beyond me. It also had a sloppy finish as Nikki had to hold the tights in order to get the win…

They show a video package about the Total Diva’s at the Oscars. We also get the official announcement that Sting and HHH will face off in a match at WM31!!! Up next we have the IC title match between Ambrose and BNB…

IC Title Match: © Wade Barrett vs. Dean Ambrose (Winner: © Barrett via DQ) – This match was a great match as both Ambrose and Barrett both had their moments. But in the end Ambrose snaps and gets disqualified for not pulling off when the ref said so. Ambrose knocks out Barrett and takes off with the IC title leaving Wade in the ring…

As we come back the lights go down and the druids come out, Takers music hits and out comes a coffin. The coffin is rolled out to the ring and out pops…Bray Wyatt. He cuts a promo about the Undertaker about how he is weak and broken and just a shell of what he once was. After calling him weak Bray then claims that at WM31 he will claim the soul of the Undertaker. He lays back down in the casket and is taken away. We now get analysis from the panel about Bray calling out Taker. Up next is the US Title match between Cena and Rusev…

US Title Match: © Rusev vs. John Cena (Winner: © Rusev via Submission) – This match was about as exciting as I thought it would be. It took everything Rusev had and some help from Lana. But at the end of the day the streak is not over and Cena was left unconscious as Rusev celebrated…

Before the main event we get the Pre Show panel who give us analysis about the Cena/Rusev match and the PPV overall. We then get a video package hyping the main event which is Bryan vs. Reigns to see who will face WHC Brock Lesnar at WM31…

#1 Contenders Match: Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan (Winner: Roman Reigns via Pinfall) – It was a brutal match that saw both men look really good. Reigns just couldn’t be beat and Bryan tried everything that he could to get the victory. Post match Bryan confronts Reigns and tells him to beat Lesnars butt, and shakes Reigns hand…

Overall Rating: A- Good but not great…

KDoubles Take: My take on the WWE Fast Lane PPV…

In years past this time was reserved for the Elimination Chamber PPV. In this event there would be 6 participants that would compete for either a number one contender ship or for one of the 2 heavyweight championships in the WWE at the time. Now is a new day though and today we hop in the Fast Lane, this Sunday the WWE will put on another PPV with no WHC match. It will open with a segment of Miz TV featuring Paul Heyman and when you get Paul on the mike you know that it will be classic. You will also have the Sting vs HHH segment thrown in there somewhere and I do believe that will be worth the price of admission ($9.99 with the WWE network). The tag champs will be defending against the team of Cesaro and Kidd, a match that I expect the champs to lose. The Divas title will be defended by Nikki Bella and I believe that she will drop it to the young Diva Paige. Finally we have the IC title the I expect to change hand as it makes sense for Dean to bring home the gold at this point. The match between the dust brothers leaves me to not really care who wins, but I expect it to be Stardust as his brother is expected to retire this year. Finally you have the 6 man tag match that I fully expect the faces to get the win and get over today…

US Title Match: © Rusev w/lana vs. John Cena : Now this one is a hard one to guess how it’s going to turn out, Cena should win because he is the true face of the company and the star that I always felt had enough juice to be given the clean win over Rusev. Now in recent weeks I have began to take a different look at it and im now thinking that it may be best for Rusev to somehow keep the streak and the title here and have him lose it at Mania. So as far as I’m concerned Rusev should win this match via DQ or something like that…

#1 Contenders Match for the WWE WHC: Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan: This match is a little more predictable, im pretty sure that Reigns will get his shot at the WHC at WM31. So with that being said it will be how he wins this match that will determine whether he goes into Mania as a heel or as a not so over face. The latter of these two results is the least likely in my opinion, reigns is already hated by so many for winning the Royal Rumble why not just take advantage of the heat and push him to being a heel. But alas all of us will have to wait until later tonight to see who will be in the main event at WM31!!...

KDoubles Take: Why Roman Reigns winning the Royal Rumble isn’t the worst thing that could have happened….

I wanna take you back to that fateful night, The Royal Rumble is closing out and The Rock is standing center of the ring with the winner…Roman Reigns. The crowd is booing BOTH of them out of the building! Let me repeat that for you… THE ROCK and Roman Reigns were getting booed out the building in Philadelphia. This is how bad that fan base did not want to see Reigns emerge victorious. I get it they don’t think he deserves it, not over the comeback king Daniel Bryan and I can’t really argue with this logic. Bryan was only stripped of the title because he got injured and was going to miss the next several months and that was too long to be out. Still Bryan deserved a shot and the Philly crowd wanted to see him get it. Instead they get the man that most of them knew were going to win…Reigns! Now I am going to tell you why this isn’t that bad of an idea by the WWE…

My first point to this effect is that Reigns has grown as a in ring competitor. Even though his mike skills still suck I believe that Reigns is the only viable option to throw at Lesnar. And that is what this is about who will match up well with the Champ? They can’t give you a recycled Cena vs. Lesnar that would just turn the fans off. They could give you Bryan vs Lesnar and that would probably tear the house down, but having Bryan be the main focus 2 Mainia’s in a row?? I don’t know about that?? The final choice you have is Lesnar vs Reigns the reason I leave Rollins and Ambrose off the list is because I think both would be better served staying out of the WHC picture until after Lesnars reign is over. So that leaves us with the main event that I thought we would have which is Lesnar vs. Reigns which will be a good match. It’s the ending that intrigues me what way are they going to go with it? Will we see a heel run as champ for Roman? We will have to keep our eyes on the coming weeks of RAW and SMACKDOWN as well as FAST LANE PPV on this years Road to WrestleMainia…

KDoubles Take: Who is winning the rest of the matches at this year’s Royal Rumble PPV…

Now this year’s Royal Rumble is not the most exciting other than the main event and the WHC triple threat match. Another reason for the lack of excitement is that this is only a 6 match card, that’s including the pre show match!! It’s the smallest card I have seen in recent memory, I have already gave you my predictions for the top matches in the PPV now it’s time for the rest…

(Pre Show) The New Day vs. Cesaro, Tyson Kidd and Adam Rose in a 6 Man Elimination Tag Match:  In a feud that kind of came out of nowhere about a month or two ago. But alas we have another feud for the newest trio to spring into the WWE… The New Day. I like the new group but I don’t know what direction they are going in or who they could feud with. But this match should be a good one considering it will be a elimination 6 man tag match. As for who will win?? Well…

Winners: The New Day (Kofi, Big E & Xavier Woods)

Paige & Natalya vs. the Bella Twins in a Diva’s Tag Team Match: This was another match that seemed to just be thrown together with a 4 week feud. Now I do believe that some of this “feud” has played out on Total Diva’s a show I’m not to familiar with. But I can say that watching Paige is always a pleasure and I can’t wait to see what these four turn out. As far as the winner?? Well...

Winners: The Bella Twins (©Nikki & Brie)

The New Age Outlaws vs. the Ascension in a Tag Team Match: Now this is one of those feuds that make me happy. For the past few weeks we have had to deal with the Ascension coming out and running down some of the greatest tag teams in history and claiming they were better. That ended last Monday night at RAW Reunion when the outlaws, APA and NWO showed them young bucks what was up. That led to this match that I see going to??...

Winners: The Ascension (Konner & Viktor)
